DL schools typically have continuous enrolment and flexible completion dates. Completion rates as measured in brick-and-mortar schools are less applicable to DL schools. I have developed a way to measure completion rates that is fully applicable to DL schools, called completion half-life, by analogy with the scientific concept of radiation half-life. Measurement of completion half-life at VLN tells a fascinating story. Completion half-life shows us at any given time how quickly students are working through courses. The regular variation of completion half-life throughout the year is informing our communication strategy at VLN.
